Title:Reliability Engineer

Description

Skyline Solar is looking for a reliability engineer with experience developing test methods for evaluating tracker systems and inverter systems. You will lead and project manage the test plans you develop for these designs whether done internally or not. You will work closely with the engineering team in providing reliability insight to the design. You will also will establish good relationships with the suppliers and evaluate their reliability plans strengths and weaknesses and provide guidance.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and assemble appropriate testing methodologies for stimulating materials and assembly failure modes and mechanisms for trackers and inverters.
  • Ability to develop and execute tracker and inverter reliability plan, including good project management skills, that may include developing reliability goals and test resources internally/externally for verifying reliability goals against plan.
  • Experience in using reliability statistics for characterization.
  • Assist in developing system electronics and mechanical reliability model for understanding where reliability efforts should be focused.
  • Work with key suppliers and Skyline Engineering to ensure commodity reliability has been addressed adequately, and to work with supplier to develop and execute appropriate plans if any shortcomings.
  • Ability to facilitate and develop FMECAs, and FTAs.

Qualifications:

  • BS ME/EE/technical degree or equivalent experience with at least 5 years in a hands-on reliability engineering role on electronics or mechanical devices.
  • Pragmatic reliability engineer who knows how to balance practical experimentation with some theory and has ability to be hands-on.
  • Ability to creatively develop network of testing resources and ability to leverage existing industry subject matter experts and literature.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of reliability analysis software packages including Wiebull ++, Relex, etc.
  • Ability to project manage multiple reliability and compliance tasks to development schedule.
  • Knowledge of accelerated testing methodologies including HALT/HASS

    Other desirable personal qualities and skills:

  • Experience developing and executing reliability plan for tracker systems either in solar or satellite industries
  • Reliability Engineering experience in Solar Industry

Job Summary

Work under administrative direction of Quality Assurance Manager with primary responsibility for reliability and maintainability (R&M) projects of broad scope and complexity. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Support all quality department efforts. Create and develop technical approaches, which are responsive to customer R&M requirements. Ensure that approaches are statistically valid and are in agreement with state-or-the-art practices and contractual requirements. Develop work-study programs and work flow diagrams. Develop R&M contract data requirements in response to customer request for proposals, including statements of work, specifications, estimation of man¬ hour budgets and schedules. Interpret R&M statistical data and draw conclusions with supporting rationales. Develop, coordinate and conduct technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs. Recommend design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability. Comply and analyze performance reports and process control statistics; investigate and analyze relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes. Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards. Analyze preliminary plans and develop reliability-engineering programs to achieve company, customer and governmental agency reliability objectives. Develop mathematical models to identify units, batches or processes posing excessive failure risks. As necessary, propose units and/or batches requiring environmental testing, and specify minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.

Provide overall R&M, Human Factors and System Safety expertise and judgment as necessary. Provide continuing technical guidance to design engineers and the operations cells regarding R&M characteristics of equipment, including failure and maintenance support characteristics to ensure that design activity results in equipment and systems that meet high reliability, maintainability, system safety and human factors standard. Perform design tradeoffs while participating in design reviews. Perform R&M analyses of designs using standard methods and techniques including: failure modes, effects of criticality analysis (FMECA) and R&M predictions. Administer failure reporting and corrective action system (FRACAS). Chair/conduct failure evaluation review meetings, ensuring timely closure of failure investigations and implementation of corrective action. Provide input to life cycle cost models relative to R&M elements. Review subcontractor’s proposals for reliability program.

Prepare and submit various reports in compliance with contract data requirements lists (CDRL), i.e., product performance, reliability, program and test, maintainability program and demonstration plans, and document activities for internal/external reporting. Prepare visual aids and conduct technical briefings for customers. Supervise reliability tests and maintainability demonstrations.

Develop logic and process flows and output formats using complex computer resources. Maintain currency in the use of accepted R&M techniques and practices to insure continuous improvement in product design.

Maintain priorities and schedules. Investigate and identify problem areas/issues; recommend and/or take corrective action, as required. Report unusual problem/issues to supervision. Support various initiatives such as obsolescence prevention, RoHS, GIDEP alerts and Maintain records, data, and files. Support Quality, Design and Operations as required.

Interface effectively with all levels of personnel and maintain effective communication among all functional departments. Maintain liaison with internal and external customers.

Desirable Qualifications:

Broad knowledge of a technically specialized field such as Reliability and Maintainability, Human Factors and Safety of Systems. Good working knowledge of personal computers and competency in the use of associated software such as statistical computer and MS Office application software, mathematical formula development and database management. Requires a BSEE or BSME. Over 7 years up to and including 10 years.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsible for the analysis and investigations in RAM for Ground-based Missile Defense (GMD) and Strategic Program systems. Responsibilities include researching/developing state of the art engineering solutions to complex RAM technology, such as, advanced statistical analysis techniques & design/development/production of autonomous data collection embedded sensors for ground support equipment & missiles, and advanced data analysis techniques unique to GMD systems hardware configurations. Performs RAM engineering studies and analysis for the Missile Defense Agency, Strategic Systems and other programs with high reliability systems, subsystems and components. Develops RAM predictions for complete new design electronic systems, subsystems and components. Performs new system design reviews from a RAM engineering perspective. Analyzes reliability data for fielded systems with high failure rates. Responsible for understanding the RAM and quality requirements for these systems and working directly with design and test engineers to verify compliance with requirements. Make recommendations to the design engineering team with respect to RAM improvements.

Qualifications:

BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Physics or related discipline. Bachelor's degree in professional engineering or combination of college level education and experience that furnished: 1) knowledge of physical/mathematical science underlying professional engineering; and 2) understanding (theoretical/practical) of engineering sciences/techniques and applications to a branch of engineering. This must be demonstrated by: 1) Professional Engineer registration/license; 2) specific academic courses - 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, & engineering sciences; or 3) completion of bachelor's degree in engineering technology/professional field provided applicant has 1 year of professional engineering experience under professional engineering supervision/guidance. At least 10 years of experience in the reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) engineering field.

Ability to manage multiple programs by performing or coordinating simultaneous tasks to achieve mission-critical goals. Practical knowledge and skill in the use of reliability engineering, ability to analyze process issues, identify constraints, and develop recommendations for improvement.
