Description

This person will lead a team of professionals responsible for managing Reliability programs across all products line. This team will be responsible for determining reliability and life cycle cost requirements required for all new PDM programs. Thus, this team will work closely with Marketing and Design Reliability Engineering to 1) track the reliability performance of existing products and 2) establish the requirements of future products to meet BHI commercial requirements. This team is also responsible for maintaining the Cost of Failure models for each product line as well as generates the Control Tower dashboard for RQ&PS. This model also drives RDM requirements as well as sets the priorities for fleet upgrades. Finally this team also with manage all employees on the PLCE Development Program.

    Skill Requirements

Title:Senior Reliability Maintenance Engineer

Description

This position, under minimal supervision, is responsible for providing engineering support for planning, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings and utilities, developing and implementing programmatic methods to ensure safe operation and high equipment reliability/availability, cost effective maintenance, continuous improvement culture, and regulatory compliance. In addition, this individual will be responsible for applying efficient end use technologies to lighting, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, utility, process, and power systems with the goal of reducing operating costs. This includes integrating systems, applying predictive technologies when appropriate, while optimizing a system's operational performance, life cycle cost, and payback.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and be responsible for the execution of reliability excellence/maintenance program.
  • Write and maintain reliability maintenance strategy documents.
  • Identify and implement predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Manage predictive maintenance equipment.
  • Responsible for ranking the criticality of the assets under their care, typically using Reliability Centered Maintenance approaches, and for defining the proactive maintenance approaches that is cost-beneficial to the business.
  • Administer programs such as Thermography, vibration analysis, lube oil monitoring, for the site and regionally. Administration may include vendor selection, program scooping/scheduling, analysis review, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Perform/support operational event and equipment failure investigations to ensure that the root cause/causal factors have been identified, corrective actions prescribed, and follow-up monitoring conducted as applicable, to determine effectiveness.
  • Conduct program and system/equipment audits on a periodic and as needed basis; Audits will generally be focused on safety, regulatory compliance, maintenance effectiveness, cost savings, and energy conservation.
  • Participate in the planning, design review, value management and construction document development of new facilities and renovations.
  • Support utility distribution, master planning, and business continuity planning.
  • Perform life-cycle financial modeling of developed technical solutions.
  • Construct detailed technical proposals and draft bid documents.
  • Support commissioning activities for all upgrade, renovation, and construction projects which may include, but is not limited to, PM job plans, reviews for maintainability, critical spares, documentation, etc.
  • Develop and maintain new "Key Performance Indicators" of equipment reliability. Examples of KPIs are:
    • Overtime worked against plan
    • PM schedule compliance
    • Response Time for Demand Work Orders
    • Budget compliance
    • PM Backlog man-hours
    • Critical Equipment availability
    • Number of breakdowns (Unplanned maintenance)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree from accredited Institution in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or appropriate scientific discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer, Certified Plant Engineer or Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional.
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience, including experience with mechanical design/testing, international quality standards, FDA regulated industry and rotating equipment.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years utility systems/management and/or facilities/plant management and maintenance in Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience w/predictive maintenance technologies including, but not limited to, vibration analysis, oil analysis, infrared Thermography, ultra sound and motor current analysis.
  • Experience w/ Root Cause Failure Analysis, Equipment Criticality Ranking, PM/PdM optimization, and/or Failure Modes and Effects.

POSITION SUMMARY

Achieving reliability and robustness of BlackBerry designs is an integral part of Research in Motion product development activities. The Reliability Group is growing and is an active and close partner with design and manufacturing departments. The Reliability Specialist is a key component of this team, by providing in-depth knowledge and practical application of reliability techniques that help prevent, remove or reduce the risk of field failure. This spans analysis of conceptual and early prototype design, developmental testing, product qualification and in-service monitoring. The successful candidate will develop research and development of innovative methods to achieve continuous improvement in reliability analysis and testing. Such analysis and testing will encompass mechanical, electronic and RF features. The incumbent will develop and apply statistical methods for the design of experiments and the analysis of test and in-service data, and will write clear reports and make recommendations based on this analysis. The Specialist will work closely with engineering design groups on reliability aspects of new product introduction and with manufacturing for continued product assurance.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Master’s degree or equivalent knowledge in Reliability Engineering
  • Proficiency and theoretical knowledge in reliability analysis methods (e.g. Physics of failure, FMEA, Fault Tree)
  • Proficiency and theoretical knowledge of reliability life testing procedures (e.g. HALT; vibration; shock; thermal cycling)
  • Proficiency and theoretical knowledge of data analysis (e.g. Weibull)
  • Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical properties of materials and electronic assemblies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills

Essential Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of reliability engineering to the completion of difficult assignments.
  • Works as a member of engineering teams to develop and specify reliability requirements for components, assemblies, and products.

Qualifications

  • Possesses industry recognized certification such as Certified Reliability Engineer (Preferred)
  • Working Applying - Industry Knowledge.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Eagerness to assist internal and external customers.
  • Possess attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Organize/lead cross functional teams to identify problem issues and drive product improvement process.
  • Provide reliability engineering support to the new product development and risk management process; perform FMEAs and reliability testing.
  • Work with all product, manufacturing and quality teams to determine root cause and to ensure proper corrective actions have been identified, implemented and verified to be effective.
  • Participate in the Product Surveillance Review Board presenting complaint trends and recommendations for corrective action and product improvement.

  • Participate in other special projects and perform other miscellaneous duties as required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience leading failure investigations and/or performing failure analysis leading to root cause and corrective action.
  • 5+ years experience performing FMEA analysis and reliability testing.
  • 510 years experience in a design and manufacturing environment.
  • Applied knowledge of regulatory requirements: ISO 9001 or ISO 13485, Quality System Regulation, and Medical Device Directive. Demonstrated expertise leading failure investigations and performing Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, and reliability testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex or broad scope projects.
  • Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Ability to work crossfunctionally with Product Development, Operations, and business units; and to lead cross functional and divisional teams. Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver positive, energetic support to a team, and to be an advocate for product excellence and quality.
