Essential Responsibilities: The successful candidate will plan, conduct, and direct development and evaluation of approved scientific and engineering projects or programs with minimal supervision that increase technical knowledge and provide solutions to equipment & system reliability problems for property loss prevention and mitigation for use by FM Global research, engineering, underwriting or other corporate business components, as well as FM Global clients. The position will conduct research in the area of reliability and availability of process equipment with special focus on large rotary equipment such as compressors and turbines. The position typically directs and conducts work as a Program Manager, or assists the Technical Team Leader or Program Manager by conducting several significant projects, frequently as part of a research program. Qualifications: The candidate should have experience with aspects of design, operation, inspection, maintenance, and/or monitoring (associated with large rotating equipment) to assist such research. Familiarity with damage mechanism assessments, failure distribution estimations, reliability modeling (such as failure modes & effect analyses, fault tree analyses, Markov analyses) and event tree analyses is strongly desired. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering (or chemical engineering) with 7 or more years of pertinent experience.
